10 Star Eco Home
Together with our building design division CADDS Architectural, we are currently working closely to design and document one of the First 10 star Eco Homes in Western Australia. This dwelling has been designed to incorporate principles of sustainable design & performance, reducing water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions; reducing Energy & Water costs and improving the overall comfort of the House. This house will have the goal of creating sustainable living encompassing the principles of being environmentally friendly, economically viable and socially acceptable. We have contacted a local builder that has a keen interest in sustainability to join us in the construction of the home so that our vision becomes a reality. The site currently looks to be located in Karratha. We hope to bring further updates shortly on this project development.
Green Loans Program to Commence Mid 2009
Training for Green Loans Program commenced in December 2008 with AEEBC staff members attending the Pilot Training to become qualified household sustainability assessors. The Australian Government has set up the
Green Loans Program to assist Australian families install solar, water saving, and energy efficient products. Householders who participate will have a qualified household sustainability assessor investigate their current energy and water use. They will then be provided with a tailored report on the best water and energy saving changes they can make to their property. Secondly, the program will help households who chose to undertake actions suggested by the assessment with a Green Loan subsidy to significantly reduce the cost of loans of up to $10,000. This innovative program will help an estimated 200,000 Australian home owners to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by around 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year by 2020. Once the Green Loans Program is operational AEEBC is expected to be a preferred provider of Household Sustainability Assessments.
Location, Location, Energy Rating
Since 1999 it has been mandatory in the ACT to disclose the energy efficiency rating of a house upon sale. As a result there is a much higher value on energy efficiency in the ACT and that “location, location, EER’ has replaced the traditional real estate mantra of ‘location, location, location’.
AEEBC can not only provide certification for new projects but also provide house energy rating software assessments on existing homes sold anywhere in Australia. Home owners are quickly discovering that energy assessments can increase the value of their home significantly, as well improve comfort of the home and reduce carbon footprint. With energy costs increasing and more and more government rebates becoming available, an energy assessment for an existing home has never been more invaluable.
AEEBC Completes ESD Specifications & Energy & Water Audits
